Social Worker in Training

Tricounty Family Ministries volunteer Christina Crosby is making a difference here and in our greater Charleston community even as she makes strides towards receiving her online Master’s in Degree as a social worker and counselor from Western New Mexico University.

Christina, a wife, student, and mother to two young boys ages eight and five, has been drawn her entire life to helping others.  A native of Germany, she is a US citizen and moved to Charleston four years ago when her husband’s job changed locations.

Christina Crosby likes helping people and is a volunteer fixture at Tricounty Family Ministries.

A welcome face at Tricountry Family Ministries since August, 2018, Christina is working towards the 900 hours of  volunteer work required for her to receive her degree/counselor license.  She invests twenty hours of her time here every week. “I cross train and fill in wherever I’m needed,” says Christina. “I am able to interact with a lot of clients. It’s all rewarding because I’m giving. It’s not evaluation, which is an aspect of social work that is especially challenging and not as interactive. I especially enjoy working with the homeless and am interested in mental health issues.”

Christina can frequently be found serving food to our guests during lunch service, or distributing groceries from our emergency grocery corner most days of the week.  When she completes her 450 hours of service here, she plans to contribute her skills, knowledge, and energy at a required second volunteer location.
